A Priest of the Lord in the Business Arena: Serving, Interceding, and Leading with Kingdom Compassion
As believers in Christ, we are called to embrace our identity as prophets, priests, and kings, each playing a vital part in advancing God’s kingdom on earth. While the roles of prophet and king are often emphasized, the priestly role is equally essential, especially in the business arena. A priest of the Lord in today’s world is someone who not only serves God and others but also intercedes, brings God’s presence into the workplace, and leads with compassion, integrity, and holiness.
In ancient Israel, priests were those who served at the altar, interceded on behalf of the people, and upheld the holiness of God in the temple. Under the New Covenant, we are all called to be a royal priesthood (1 Peter 2:9). As priests in God’s kingdom, we are not limited to temple service; we are called to serve God and others in every area of life—including the business world. Today, a priest of the Lord in the business arena is one who upholds godly values, intercedes for the workplace, and serves others in humility and love, bringing God’s presence into every aspect of their work.
1. A Priest of the Lord Serves with Compassion and Humility
The heart of a priest is one of service. In the Old Testament, priests were responsible for serving in the temple, offering sacrifices, and ensuring that God’s people could approach Him with clean hearts. Today, as priests of the Lord, we are called to serve others, especially in the workplace, with compassion, humility, and a servant’s heart.
Biblical foundation:
•    Mark 10:45: “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.”
•    Philippians 2:3-4: “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.”
A priest in the business world is someone who doesn’t look to their own interests first but seeks to serve others. This means putting the needs of employees, customers, and colleagues above personal gain and leading with a servant attitude. Whether it’s by making sure employees are treated with dignity and respect, providing opportunities for their growth, or helping to meet the needs of customers in an ethical way, a priest of the Lord understands that true leadership is about serving others.
Application in business:
•    A priestly business leader would prioritize building relationships, both with their employees and customers, focusing on genuine care. They would ensure that the business fosters an environment where people feel valued, heard, and supported, not merely as workers or consumers but as people made in the image of God.
•    A priest of the Lord in business might also engage in acts of service, such as volunteering, providing scholarships or mentorship programs for employees, or supporting charitable initiatives. Their leadership reflects the heart of Christ: one that cares for the vulnerable and gives generously to others.
2. A Priest of the Lord Intercedes for the Workplace
In the Bible, the priests were intercessors. They stood in the gap between God and the people, praying for the forgiveness of sins and for God’s favor. As priests today, we are called to intercede for our workplaces, businesses, and communities—praying for guidance, wisdom, and peace in every decision.
Biblical foundation:
•    1 Timothy 2:1-2: “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.”
•    Ezekiel 22:30: “I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it; but I found no one.”
A priest in the business world is someone who prays and intercedes for their business, their employees, and their customers. They understand that God’s presence and favor are crucial for success and guidance. They take the responsibility of interceding seriously, asking God to bring wisdom and protection over the business and its people.
Application in business:
•    A priestly business leader would regularly pray for their company, asking God to guide decisions, protect the business from harm, and provide opportunities for growth. They may also pray for their employees, asking God to bless their lives and provide for their needs.
•    Additionally, a priest in the workplace might intercede on behalf of colleagues or customers who are struggling. If an employee is going through a difficult time, a business leader might pray for healing and deliverance, even offering a moment of prayer or spiritual support when appropriate. They see the workplace as a place where God can move powerfully, and they actively seek His intervention.
3. A Priest of the Lord Upholds God’s Holiness in the Workplace
In the Old Testament, priests were entrusted with maintaining the holiness of God’s sanctuary. Today, as priests in the business world, we are called to uphold God’s holiness in the workplace by maintaining moral integrity and standing for righteousness, no matter the pressures or challenges.
Biblical foundation:
•    1 Peter 1:15-16: “But just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: ‘Be holy, because I am holy.’”
•    Romans 12:1: “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.”
A priest in the business world is called to live a holy life, one that reflects God’s character in all decisions, interactions, and dealings. This involves upholding ethical standards, maintaining personal integrity, and ensuring that the business functions in a way that aligns with God’s moral law.
Application in business:
•    A priestly business leader would ensure that their company operates honestly and ethically, with practices that honor God and reflect His holiness. This may involve things like refusing to participate in corrupt practices, treating employees with fairness and respect, and ensuring that the business produces products or services that are beneficial and not harmful.
•    They would also lead by example, living a life of integrity that influences the company culture. When faced with challenges, they would maintain God-honoring principles, even when it is difficult or unpopular, demonstrating what it looks like to walk in holiness and truth.
4. A Priest of the Lord Brings God’s Presence into the Workplace
Priests were responsible for bringing the presence of God into the temple, and today, as priests of the Lord, we are called to bring His presence into every area of our lives—including our workplaces. A priest in the business world is someone who brings God’s peace, wisdom, and blessing into every aspect of their work, ensuring that the environment reflects God’s glory.
Biblical foundation:
•    Exodus 40:34-35: “Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.”
•    2 Corinthians 2:15: “For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.”
A priest in business is not just working to make a profit or achieve success but is also actively seeking to invite God’s presence into their workplace. Their actions, decisions, and leadership are driven by the understanding that God is with them and that His presence should be felt by all who work there.
Application in business:
•    A priestly business leader would seek to create a workplace culture that reflects the peace and presence of God. This might include practices like offering times of prayer, encouraging employees to seek God’s will in their work, or fostering an environment of kindness and mutual respect.
•    In challenging situations, a priestly leader might call for prayer before making important decisions or during times of crisis. They understand that inviting God into the business brings guidance, peace, and favor, and they want His presence to influence every part of their company.
5. A Priest of the Lord Makes Sacrifices for the Greater Good
A priest is someone who makes sacrifices, both for God and for others. In the business arena, this means making decisions that serve the greater good and contribute to the well-being of others, even if it requires personal sacrifice.
Biblical foundation:
•    Romans 12:1: “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.”
•    John 15:13: “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
A priestly leader in business is willing to sacrifice personal gain for the benefit of others. This could involve putting the welfare of employees first, taking a pay cut to ensure the company stays afloat, or using business profits to bless others.
Application in business:
•    A priestly business leader is someone who invests in people, offering resources, time, and effort to help employees grow, advance, and succeed, even if it means making personal sacrifices. They see their success as tied to the success of others, especially those they lead.
•    They might also consider how the business can be a force for good in the world, using the company’s resources to make a positive impact in the community or in addressing societal issues.
Conclusion: A Priest of the Lord in the Business Arena
A priest of the Lord in the business world is someone who serves with compassion, intercedes for their workplace, upholds God’s holiness, brings His presence into every aspect of the business, and makes sacrifices for the well-being of others. As priests of God, we are called to reflect His character in everything we do—whether in our leadership, our work, or our interactions with others.
By living out our priestly role, we bring the presence of God into the workplace and ensure that the business operates not just for profit, but for the glory of God and the good of His people. Let us be priests who reflect Christ’s love, integrity, and holiness, transforming the business world with kingdom values.
These characteristics define a lane or sphere of influence for those who feel called and described above. As a team being assembled within our ranks, I believe we are being led by the Holy Spirit into our rightful place in the Kingdom. We serve the Lord in many ways, but let’s focus on our role within MKBA. How do we fit, and what is our mission and purpose here?
I can feel the five-fold government of ministry being established in our family—a building of an Apostolic Model to be sent out from MorningStar! Prophet, Priest, and King—the exemplification of the Son, who resides in all of the ascension gifts, which are the manifest wisdom of Christ Jesus, our High Priest in the order of Melchizedek.
One of our goals for MKBA is to train, equip, and employ. Our Ordained are at the forefront of this movement into businesses and churches. We are anointed to teach, preach, heal, and minister in the fullness of these gifts.
My call to action for our members is to build a fund to invest in our Ordained, empowering them to go into the Kingdom. I believe that once we form this fund, God will send us. My expectations are high because we are fulfilling our mandate! Send us, Lord.
